It must be hard to see the effect of climate change on trees where you live. Where I am, developers are their greatest threat.

One of our favorite hiking spots when we lived in CA was Big Basin State Park (Santa Cruz). Greg had been hiking there since the late 70s so he was well familiar with the trees. A couple of years ago a fire went through the park, presumably destroying a lot of them. Perhaps, once we're all gone, trees can thrive again.

I was crushed by the fire in Big Basin. I do think it took out a lot of old redwoods.

What kills me is that humanity is ignoring all the warning signs nature's throwing at us. It's starting to become easy to imagine a post-tipping-point world now, when nobody goes outside during the day and nature experiences become virtual because there's no nature anymore.

You're right though. After humans it'll all come roaring back, just like in Talking Heads' (Nothing But) Flowers. 😃

To continue I’m an organic horticulturalist. I took the caterpillars put them in water and blended them into a spray to apply on the trees. Insects have their own bacteria that can also kill them. The caterpillars died, The trees started to regrow healthy leaves and later in summer produced pears. Trees are survivors. Aleopathy is another solution to explore.

Richard, thanks for the info! I'll ask the arborist if he can try something that's not too costly.

And thanks for subscribing too! New subscribers qualify to receive a copy of my ebook, Mercy Beach (fiction), so if you're interested, let me know if you prefer EPUB or PDF. Kindle and Nook are covered by both, I believe.
